Helen & Patrick Barr have been playing bridge for over 35 years. Helen was a bridge teacher and a former EBU B Flight Tournament Director. It was one of Helen’s pupils and club members who started them off on bridge holidays. Betty Phillips approached Helen one day and asked “Have you ever thought of running a bridge holiday? I’ve provisionally booked you a week at Cober Hill, but you can say no!”

This holiday was so popular that we ran two a year for the club. Then we were asked if we would take over Graham Jepson’s New Year bridge break at the Mount Hotel in Scarborough. One thing led to another and now we’re organising all the holidays you’ll find on this web-site.

Helen is affectionately known by her guests as “The Lady in Red” as she can easily be spotted on bridge holidays because she wears red dresses. It was her inability to oblige guests by dancing to the song on her first New Year holiday which inspired her and Patrick to learn to dance.

Patrick often accompanies Helen and is very popular as his main duty is being in charge of the drinks reception each evening!
