and I had our trial visit in April 2026.The hotel is situated in the centre
of Harrogate, so handy for the shops, the famous Betty’s tea
room and the RHS Harlow Carr gardens. It does show signs of its age
and would benefit from some soundproofing, but the rooms are clean and the
beds comfortable. There are only 5 actual single rooms
but cosy doubles are available for an extra £5 per night. Prices are what you
might expect in such a busy tourist spot. Parking costs £15 per night for a
reserved space in front of the hotel (it was £16 for 24 hours in the closest
council car park). It is also possible to park for free in some of the
streets near the Stray. We are paying extra for the banqueting menu rather
than coach party fare for dinner. The bridge room is light and airy and
situated next to the bar so if partner’s bidding and play leave something to
be desired, you can easily drown your sorrows. The staff all seemed very
efficient and obliging. There is no deposit to pay but the full cost of the holiday
must be paid by the 4th September 2027 and there is no refund if you
cancel after this date so you may wish to consider taking out insurance.
