Helen & Patrick Barr are examples of the exception that proves the rule: they are happy playing, and living, together. They have been playing bridge for over 20 years. Helen is a bridge teacher and an EBU B Flight Tournament Director. They also run the Barr-None Bridge Club which was set up to promote duplicate bridge and raise money for charity. It was one of Helen’s pupils and club members who started them off on bridge holidays. Betty Phillips approached Helen one day and asked “Have you ever thought of running a bridge holiday? I’ve provisionally booked you a week at Cober Hill, but you can say no!” This holiday was so popular that we now run two a year for the club. Then we were asked if we would take over Graham Jepson’s New Year bridge break at the Mount Hotel in Scarborough. One thing led to another and now we’re organising all the holidays you’ll find on this web-site. |
